VOH Maramvya

About VOH Maramvya

VOH Maramvya opened in February 2018. We care for over 190 children and employ over 20 Burundians. Our centre is 20 kilometres northwest of Bujumbura (the capital city). More than 70,000 people live in the area, with an average density of 35 people per 2 km.

Maramvya’s population is impoverished; many women are single mothers, and many children don’t have the opportunity to go to school.

At VOH Maramvya, we enable the children to attend school, offer a feeding program for all our students, and provide medical care when needed.

Our Programs

Feeding Program

We offer breakfast to the children during the week before they start school, and we provide them with lunch after school. We make sure all meals are well-balanced, meet nutritional requirements, and contain a variety of vitamins, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. We also provide food packs each month for the children to take home to share with their families.

Education

We offer baby classes, preschool, kindergarten, and primary school. In addition, we provide our students with any school materials they need, including clothing, school bags, and stationery.

Healthcare

If one of our children is sick, our medical officer coordinates with the child’s caregivers and gets the child to a local clinic or hospital. VOH Bwiza then covers any medical bills. We also provide health education and training to our children, their guardians, VOH staff, and volunteers. This education includes First Aid training, information on nutrition, and guidance on monitoring a child’s growth.
